Den 20 maj 2018 ägde det sjätte presidentvalet rum i den Bolivarianska Republiken Venezuelas nutida historia. Nicolás Maduro Moros vann detta val och i enlighet med den venezolanska konstitutionen kommer han att sväras in för en ny mandatperiod den 10 januari 2019.
Valet ägde rum i ett klimat av lugn och ro med deltagande av 46,02% av den totala valmanskåren, en siffra mycket lik den för presidentvalet i USA.
I detta val ställde olika politiska kandidater upp, som Henry Falcon, ledare för Avanzada Progresista, och Javier Bertucci, partiledare för El Cambio, både motståndare till den nuvarande regeringen. Det bör noteras att 67,84% av de personer som röstade valde det alternativ som representerades av Frente Amplio de la Patria och dess kandidat Nicolás Maduro, vilket motsvarar 6 245 862 giltiga röster. För sin del uppnådde Henry Falcón, den oppositionskandidat som fick flest röster, bara 20,93%, vilket innebar 1 927 387 röster.
Det venezolanska folkets demokratiska svar visar att de är fast beslutna att fortsätta på den inslagna vägen med självständig och demokratisk uppbyggnad av landet.
Under de senaste 5 åren har olika USA-regeringar mot Venezuela utarbetat en sofistikerad destabiliseringsplan för att störta en regering som valts på demokratisk väg i ett valsystem som anses vara ett av de bästa i världen, enligt USAs f.d. president Jimmy Carter.
USAs försök att uppnå ett regimskifte utgör ett systematiskt brott mot det venezolanska folkets suveränitet och självbestämmande.
I mars 2015 utfärdade USAs regering ett dekret, i vilket man sa att Venezuela utgjorde ett “ovanligt och extraordinärt hot mot USAs nationella säkerhet och utrikespolitik”, och förklarade ett “nationellt krisläge för att hantera det hotet”. Ett annat direktiv i augusti 2017 krävde att finansdepartementet skulle genomföra “irreversibla” sanktioner mot den venezolanska ekonomin och finanssystem, en uppsättning ensidiga tvångsåtgärder som är oacceptabla enligt internationell rätt. Sålunda aktiverades den ekonomiska belägringen för att omöjliggöra återhämtningen av den venezolanska ekonomin, som påverkats av de sedan sommaren 2014 sjunkande oljepriserna.
På grund av den ekonomiska blockaden av Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA), ryggraden i den venezolanska ekonomin, i kombination med den kommersiella och finansiella blockaden, påverkas handel och inköp av livsviktiga förnödenheter direkt, och slår hårt mot det venezolanska folkets livskvalitet, vilket förvärrar den ekonomiska krisen. USA och en grupp regeringar som är trogna tjänare till Vita huset förbereder sig för att förneka legitimiteten i president Nicolás Maduro Moros mandat, från den 10 januari. Med anledning av dessa aviserade avsikter, uppmanar vi folket i USA och det internationella samfundet att respektera principen om icke-inblandning och att erkänna och respektera det venezolanska folkets suveränitet, ett folk som fortsätter på sin egen fredliga väg, i enlighet med sin omistliga rätt till självbestämmande och oberoende.
